A variety of factors often interact in people’s lives in ways that can make it a challenge to cope. Difficulties typically arise from the external, practical realities of everyday life; one’s own thoughts, feelings and personal past; as well as social and interpersonal relationships. The best description of services emerges from talking together about the person’s unique life situation. Then, achievable goals and how to work toward reaching them can become clearer.

The means I employ in helping my clients draw upon the range of methods commonly used toward achieving mental health. To help clients I provide therapy (for children beginning at age six), adults, couples, and families. When past trauma is important, we might utilize EMDR, a structured technique that is very effective in some circumstances. I also provide comprehensive clinical psychological assessment (formal testing), that integrates cognitive and emotional functioning. This can be helpful when therapy alone leaves important questions not understood.

I received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Brown University, and master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University in New York City. I completed an internship and post-doctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital of Harvard Medical School, where I also served as a Clinical Fellow. I was an assistant professor of psychology at Park University and a staff psychologist at the Menninger Clinic, when it was in Topeka, based in the Children’s Hospital. I am a Level II provider of EMDR services. I have been in independent practice since 2001, licensed in both Missouri and Kansas.
